Boy with School Cone, Reichenbach im Vogtland, Germany, 1934
A photo of something beginning with S—a Schultüte or school cone—for the Vintage Photos Theme Park.

Photographer's stamp on the back of this real photo postcard. "Adolf E. Weiss, Reichenbach, I.V."

Handwritten note on back: "Reichenbach, 9.4. 1934."

A photo of a young boy holding a Schultüte (school cone) on his first day of school in Reichenbach im Vogtland, Germany, in 1934.

Nice photo, Alan, of this young sailor to mark his first day of school. He still seems a bit unsure about the prospect, which I understand completely. This is a sweet custom but I don't understand the cone shaped design. It seems profoundly impractical but I must be missing something. I've never understood cornucopia either. Cones are meant solely for ice cream.

Thanks, Rick! I don't understand the reason for the cone shape either, but I find the tradition and photos quite interesting.
