In case anyone's interested, I just discovered that Women in Pants: Manly Maidens, Cowgirls, and Other Renegades (New York: Harry N. Abrams, 2003), by Catherine Smith and Cynthia Greig, contains a section on "Mock Weddings: 'Dressed Up as a Man at That Wedding,'" pp. 132-37, which includes a brief discussion of the all-female mock wedding as well as vintage photos documenting the practice.
