190 ReedSchoolBill&EvaMessinger 1908 Number22ofFultonCountyHistoricalSocietyQuarterly Page16
This is scanned from a page of the Fulton County Historical Society Quarterly. This is a 1908 school photo at the Reed School (grades one through eight). My grandfather is the tall boy in the front row with the dark shirt and hair parted in the middle. His older sister, Eva is in the back row, at right, with her arms around the girl in front of her.

Fulton County, Indiana had a number of one-room school houses scattered about among the farmsteads.

In the pamphlet, some former students recalled that one day, around Christmas time, the children locked their teacher, Tom Reed (shown in back), out of the building because he wouldn't "treat" them. He went and put a block on the chimney and smoked the kids out.
