Children of Jacob Stingelin Sr. (born Pratteln, Basel Canton, Switzerland) and Maria Margaretha Werner (born Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany). The girl on the right is my great-grandmother Mary Elizabeth Stingely Messinger (born 1863). The girl on the left is Anna Dorothy Stingely (born 1866), who later married George William Weaver, a conductor on the Pennsylvania Railroad. The boy in the middle is a person that my grandfather (William Messinger) would come to know as "Uncle Jake". Jacob Stingely Jr. was born in 1861. He was a farmer, a school teacher (for a while) and a carpenter/cabinet maker with a shop in the town of Fulton.
If the youngest girl is five years old in this photo (doesn't she look to be about five?) then we can date this photo to about 1871. This is the oldest photo in my extended family that I am aware of. (Thanks to Barbara Williams-Hattery, who let me scan the original. She is a granddaughter of the girl on the right.)
