Orange Instruction

Orange Instruction
Orange is the panjandrum,
fluent in Mandarin,
completely owning its part of the spectrum.
It is the only fruit.
By the open window it’s all a still life needs-
as Cézanne said : “Consciousness is an orange.”
Omnipresent in sunsets: stirring together
yellows and reds.
You’ll find it laying down amber and gold
dressing a sunrise over the sea.
It is the dream of Nirvana.
Just eat it.
Push your fingers under its skirt:
it will ooze, it may sting. Release
its swellings, swallow its juice.
It is the fruit that Adam and Eve shared
segment by segment.
It is Original Bliss.
Let us pray: Outspan. Sunkist. Jaffa.
Believe in this.

Don’t eat them all at once, they have side effects, Marie-claire...

Don't chew the seeds. They are sour.

No need to chew, just swallow the seeds. Grow orange trees inside you, Armando!

Beautiful poetry. Since I love the scent of citrus being peeled, I imagined the penultimate line to begin with "let us spray."

Like Colonel Kilgore in Apocalypse Now : “I love the smell of citrus in the morning.” ...but that would be a more sunny sort of film...Breakfast Now.?

I love it that "orange" is the last word to enter our color language. It didn't show up in English until the first oranges were coming back in ships going from Europe to down south.
