Aha, an industrial looking fence in the woods. Looks very stable.
The tubes, are these the leftovers of an abandoned quarry or a mining area?

HFF!

A Wire Works. A very, very long building. The pipes must have been to supply the works with water.
Tacheles has replied to Steve Bucknell
I see. Thanks for further information, Steve.

There is an interesting etymological link between the German word Drahtzieher and the English term wire puller (one who uses secret or underhanded means to influence the acts of a person or organization).
Steve Bucknell has replied to Tacheles
I'm not sure "wire puller" is a common idiom." Pulling strings" might suit that definition better...or are you just pulling my leg?
2 years ago. Edited 2 years ago.
Tacheles has replied to Steve Bucknell
How could I pull your leg? I'm a polite guy! ;)

Thanks for showing me the ropes strings. Presumably the expression I've spotted (the wire puller) covers dust of many decades, because it was used in the 19th century. So it fell in oblivion and was forgotten by the English speaking world.

Anyhow, etymology is an exciting waste of time and I appreciate it very much.

Now you mention it...that's spot-on. The path follows the railway line that served the factory. Most remnants of it long since gone.
