Busy Bees!

Busy Bees!
Another shot of our current rockery residents. This is a pair of early mining bees (Andrena haemorrhoa) providing an ideal opportunity to tell the sexes apart. As well as being slightly smaller, the male (right) clearly has a thick ginger beard whilst the female just has a few wisps of dirty white facial hair.

Bergfex, Mackedwars, Christine Boes-Schiller, yokopakumayoko Francesco and 7 other people have particularly liked this photo

Nice Macro Roy, It's a subject I could be interested in following but I do have trouble with ID's even when using charts.

Many thanks Maurice. I tend to use field guides that have text describing the distinguishing features as well as pictures. Some are extremely boring, but others like the WILDGuide set published by Princeton (http://press.princeton.edu/wildguides/) deliver the information in a way that I find extremely enjoyable.

Many thanks Frank-Michael. They are quite common here, with around 100 currently setting up home in my garden. Enjoy your weekend too.
