Not a Wasp!

Not a Wasp!
This may look like a wasp, but isn't. It's a bee known as Marsham's Nomad Bee. To be precise, it's a cuckoo bee that lays its eggs in the nests of other species. It was spotted patrolling our garden rockery that's currently a large colony of miner bees. So far, I've identified two species - A. haemorrhoa and A. fulva. I'm finding sitting and watching this colony absolutely fascinating.

Most amusing moment to date was watching a red-tailed bumblebee queen trying to enter an A. fulva burrow.

Christine Boes-Schiller, yokopakumayoko Francesco, Ian Kirk, Jan Hemels and 8 other people have particularly liked this photo
