Cutty Sark

Cutty Sark
The tea clipper Cutty Sark in her display case on the south bank of the Thames at Greenwich. Whilst the naked spars of her rigging look impressive, I would really love to see her in full sail. The museum shop has models and pictures that give some idea of how this would look, but there's nothing like the real thing.

Mackedwars, Mariano B, Tractacus, Francis and 5 other people have particularly liked this photo

Lovely view Roy. Sadly I don't expect to see this in sail. The tall ships in Liverpool is the best bet I think for seeing sailing ships now.

Many thanks Steve. Such is her sail area that if they did haul up the canvas she'd probably break free of her cabinet and sail off up the Thames!

A strange museum, enclosing not the whole ship but only the lower parts. What was the reasoning for such?
Roy Lowry has replied to Sonja
Hi Sonja. The ship is in a dry dock because she was deforming afloat. Around the dock is a glass case. The tour comprises under the hull, two internal decks then out onto the hull. Having her rigging free makes an iconic landmark.
