Lord Phil

Lord Phil
Peak Rail is a short preserved railway between Matlock and South Rowsley that operates a shuttle service on weekends and in the holiday season. The train has a steam locomotive at one end and a diesel at the other. This is the steam locomotive currently in use. It is a Hunslet Austerity 0-6-0 saddle tank named Lord Phil that was built in 1944.

Photographed at South Rowsley station.

An interesting piece of old time machinary nicely photographed.
Not seen a steam loco for many years other than a relic used for holliday tourists on my local rail bus track, it makes about four runs per season with ancient wooden rolling stock.

Many thanks John. Plenty of opportunities in the UK, including steam specials running on the mainline network.

Austerity? LOL, what a funny name for an engine! Lord Phil must be a very jovial little lok, when he still may carry wagons with tourists!

Thanks again Sonja. Austerity is the name of a class of shunting locomotives built during the War when money was in short supply.
