Perch Rock Activity

Perch Rock Activity
This photo shows the problems facing ships entering Liverpool's Seaforth Docks. The lock faces upstream so the ship has to turn through 180 degrees in a relatively narrow channel with a rock outcrop in the middle - hence the lighthouse.

This shot shows the relatively small (142 m and 9587 tonne) container vessel Flintercape (IMO 9365984) executing this manoeuvre with the help of the tug Millgarth. Ships twice this size use the docks so the Mersey pilots certainly earn their pay!

Ian Kirk, SV1XV, Mackedwars, Tractacus and 7 other people have particularly liked this photo

This lighthouse is pretty, but a bit small next to modern day ships...

An excellent shot Roy but you would think that in this day and age those rocks could be blasted away !!!

Think the lighthouse might be a listed building ;-)
