Brent Goose

Brent Goose
My biggest surprise of yesterday's trip to West Kirby was this lone brent (or brant) goose calmly swimming within a few metres of the promenade. I've seen them on Hilbre Island, which is around a mile offshore, and they are extremely shy requiring careful stalking to get a decent photograph, but never in the marine lake before.

Rol/photo, Claudine Gaulier-Denis, Hélène chevillard, Mackedwars and 6 other people have particularly liked this photo

Nice find and Capture Roy.
When they are hungry they care little about people getting close as I learned during the summer.

How beautiful! Ah, the lenten goose, born from a shell like venus. Living nowhere near a coast, I see them rarely....

Many thanks Sonja. Each winter I walk out to Hilbre Island and these geese are one of the regular rewards.

Many thanks Roger. Brents usually do and I was only about 5m away. However, it kept swimming towards me so it couldn't have been that worried!

Many thanks Roland. Light was from a difficult direction so I was pleased with this result. Ideal lighting would have required wading into 1.5m of water.
