Many thanks Dominique. We also saw some in the pools of the reserve at Sene (although we couldn't get a close look because the reserve had closed for winter!). Many at Cantizac were carrying colour rings, so have probably been on the reserve at some time.

Many thanks John. Yes it has colour rings, as did several other birds in the flock, which is why I was trying to find a French site listing colour-ring histories.
