Berno Mill

Berno Mill
Berno Mill on the Ile d'Arz in the Golfe du Morbihan in Southern Brittany is driven by the tide. The dam on which it is built contains a number of sluices that allows the rising tide to flow into the lagoon. These are closed at high tide leaving the water to flow out through a single channel containing the mill wheel. It was built around the 13th Century, operated until 1910 and decayed until a restoration project between 1994 and 2000.

The man in the picture is placing a net across one of the inlet channels and we watched him take a couple of nice grey mullet home for tea.
