Digger Wasp

Digger Wasp
A digger wasp working on one of a cluster of nest holes in the middle of a path across the rockery at Ness Gardens. Tentatively identified as Mellinus sp.

Identification was a challenge - body markings are variable and the criteria to use is the shape of the spaces between the wing veins called sub-marginal cells. I've given it my best shot to find the genus, but it could well be incorrect! Updates welcome.

Lovely shot Roy although I'm not a fan of wasps.

Many thanks Roger. These are hunters of other insects and not the social wasps that make a nuisance of themselves.
