Yellowhammer (m)

Yellowhammer (m)
The second delight of the visit to Prees Heath was this cock yellowhammer at his songpost in a hawthorn bush. As soon as I entered the reserve I heard the characteristic 'Little bit of bread but no cheese' call from several directions, but not all were easy to see.

The last time I saw one of these birds was in Northumberland in 2010. It was very pleasing to find a place where they are present in numbers.

Nice capture! The small birds never stay still long enough for me to shoot.

Many thanks Jim. He was in full song which helps - knowing where the bird is allows a cautious approach.

This is a really good pic Roy and many thanks for posting in 'Fur,Fin and Feather'.

There are a dwindling few around my area in the South West.

Many thanks Jeff. I remember them as abundant in my youth, but hadn't seen one for years until guided to this location by another Ipernity contact.
