Devil's Coach-horse (Ocypus olens)

Devil's Coach-horse (Ocypus olens)
Having failed to take a chunk out of my finger the beetle calmly walked off providing me with the shot that I wanted. I'm used to finding Devil's Coach-horses in the garden that are around 0.5 cm, but this monster was nearer 3 cm.

Gerald Schmitt, Bob Ottey, Don Sutherland, Minty Chewson and 2 other people have particularly liked this photo

Nice shot.
I used to call them "Cocktail beetles" a name I learned from my Gran.

Many thanks. We still regularly get small ones in the garden, but nothing like this brute!
