Eastman's portrait montage

Eastman's portrait montage
George Eastman, born 12th July 1854, died March 14th 1932. Not quite the "father of photography" but one who most people may know as the founder of the company to become known as the Eastman Kodak Company. His wealth is apparent by his mansion, George Eastman House, although, in his lifetime he was quite a philanthopist, donating over $100 million to various charities and organisations. He never married. Quite what he would have thought about Kodak's recent decline and descent into bankruptsy is a moot point! Indeed, as childen of the post war years, it is almost incredible that the ubiquitous yellow film boxes are now a thing of the past. More amazing still is that digital image technology was more or less invented by the Kodak company, which, as it turned out, was the seed of their own destruction as they failed to capitalise on this invention, preferring to nail their colours to the, then, profit making chemical, film and paper 'mast'. This portrait of the man, in later life, is made up of hundreds of back lit transparencies.
