Poplar Hawk-moth (Laothoe populi) caterpillar meditating

Poplar Hawk-moth (Laothoe populi) caterpillar meditating
When threatened, the Poplar Hawk-moth draws its head under its body.

This particular indivdual has been feeding on a Salix Caprea bush (a species of Willow), which causes the dark red colours of the spots on the caterpillar's body.
