National Shrine of St. Elizabeth Seton, Emmitsburg, Maryland, USA
200 years ago, Elizabeth Ann Bayley Seton founded the Sisters of Charity of Saint Joseph's, the first new community for religious women to be established in the United States. She also began Saint Joseph's Academy and Free School, the first free Catholic School for girls staffed by Sisters in the United States.
Italian and German artisans designed the interior of the Basilica of the National Shrine of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton. Dedicated in 1965, it was designated a Minor Basilica by Pope John Paul II in 1991.

The remains of Mother Seton are entombed under the Altar of Relics in the Basilica.
