Corporal Weaver, a husband and father, and member of 42 Commando, Royal Marines, at Bickleigh Barracks, Plymouth, was assaulted by a youth on a night out in Plymouth and, after striking his head on the kerb, died of his injuries. The culprit was found guilty of manslaughter and sentenced to life imprisonment, but the judge ruled he should serve only a minimum of five and a half years. The WW1 memorial near the main entrance. It bears an inscription stating that the then Prince of Wales, later, briefly, Edward VIII, laid a floral tribute there on 5 August 1924. The cemetery opened in 1906 but is now a "closed" cemetery, i.e. there are no new plots available.

HMS Anson Memorial, Loe Bar, Porthleven, Cornwall 3 August 2017

Looking out to sea from the HMS Anson memorial where she foundered in sight of horrified onlookers on the shore. HMS Anson was lost off Loe Bar on 29 December 1807 with the loss of some 60 to 190 men, within sight of people on the shore. Exact numbers are uncertain since many of the crew had been press ganged and of those making it to the shore many took the opportunity to desert. One of the witnesses to the horrific scene was local man Henry Trengrouse who resolved to do something to avoid similar tragedi…
