Odeon Cinema, Regent Street, Weston-Super-Mare, Somerset 31 August 2016

Odeon Cinema, Regent Street, Weston-Super-Mare, Somerset 31 August 2016
Designed by Thomas Cecil Howitt, the Odeon was opened in 1935. The design was employed in four cinemas, WSM, Bridgwater, Clacton and Warley. The tiles are biscuit coloured faience. It is unusual in that its Compton organ is one of only two original cinema organs still in use in their original working cinemas anywhere in the UK, the other being the flagship Odeon Leicester Square.

Odeon is said to be an acronym of "Oskar Deutsch Entertains Our Nation". Deutsch, an Eastern European immigrant, founded his Odeon chain in 1930.
