The unlucky Frederick Griggs.

St Edward's was built in about 1430, on a religious site dating back to Saxon times. There was further renovation in 1775 which is recorded at the time as having "been hated" by the locals. Extensions on the church are dated 1910 and 1906.

The Corps of Army Schoolmasters was established in 1845,; the Army Education Corps was founded in 1920, and was awarded the title "Royal" in 1946. Since 1962 it has been a commissioned officer corps only and today is part of the Adjutant General's Corps. In the army, its officers are usually referred to as "schoolies".
