Big Pit Badges, Blaenavon, 1990s

Big Pit Badges, Blaenavon, 1990s
The Big Pit shaft was sunk to 200 feet in 1860, then deepened to 300 feet in 1880. It was an amalgamation of several early 19th Century mines. It closed in 1980 and today is open to the public. Due to the geology and geography, they can run underground trips for visitors as there is an emergency way out of the mine should the main gear fail. As an aside, they are also licensed to conduct weddings underground ?!?! A free attraction, even underground, it is well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Sloppy apostrophe positioning on the yellow badge.
