Chartist Bridge, A4048, Blackwood, Caerphilly County Borough 16 October 2015
The Chartist Bridge, opened in 2005, and named after the 19th Century Chartist Movement, spans the River Sirhowy. It was designed by the Arup civil engineering firm, and has been constructed to "breathe" to compensate for anticipated subsidence. Unfortunately it has gained a notoriety for "jumpers", both attempted and successful. At the eastern end of the bridge is a large statue of a chartist armed with a pike, by Sebastien Boyesen.
