Series II Land Rover, Llanthony Priory, Monmouthshire 14 October 2015
A 1966 registered Series II Land Rover, pretty much the same as the model I learned to drive in, in 1971, in the army. Ours had fuel tanks under each front seat, with a tap on the driver tank to switch over to the full one, this has a conventional filler cap.

You had to slide the seat bases off to accessl the tanks. There was a large diameter fuel cap you unscrewed to reveal a large bore steel tube with a wire mesh filter. If filling from a pump you just stuck the nozzle down the tube. For jerricans the tube was pulled up and twisted to lock it in position. This made it easier to pour the fuel in without spillage. All very fiddly, and the cab stank afterwards, but it never seemed to put people off smoking!
