An artificial pond laid out in an area of the plantation cleared of trees. On the horizon, England, across the Severn Estuary.

Gwaun-y-Fferiad, "Priest's Moor" is, according to legend, the site of the hanging of a priest who lived there, and who fell out with Queen Elizabeth I. When I was a child, it was known as "The Plantation", a Forestry Commission run pine wood; I was told that it was one of many which had been planted in WW1 in a bid to reduce the need for Norwegian timber being imported at great risk from German U-Boats.
Since 1994 it has been run by the Blaen Bran Community Woodland Trust as a community woodland with many of the pine trees being replaced with native deciduous species.
