St Winwaloe, Gunwalloe, Cornwall 24 April 2015

St Winwaloe, Gunwalloe, Cornwall 24 April 2015
The 15th Century font, sited at the back of the nave, in front of the WW1 Memorial. The Norman font, now by the church entrance, was discovered buried in the graveyard.

St Winwaloe was a 6th Century Breton saint. The church at Gunwalloe (a corruption of his name) named after him, is said to be one of the oldest in Cornwall; it is mentioned in the Domesday Book. What now remains of the church was built in the 13th and 14th Centuries, but it was heavily restored after storm damage, in 1869. It has two fonts, a Norman font recovered from the graveyard, and a 15th Century font.
