St Winwaloe, Gunwalloe, Cornwall 24 April 2015

St Winwaloe, Gunwalloe, Cornwall 24 April 2015
The "RD" (Reserve Decoration), inaugurated in 1908, was awarded to officers of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve with at least fifteen years service. It was replaced in 1998 by a combined services Volunteer Reserves Service Medal.
St Winwaloe was a 6th Century Breton saint. The church at Gunwalloe (a corruption of his name) named after him, is said to be one of the oldest in Cornwall; it is mentioned in the Domesday Book. What now remains of the church was built in the 13th and 14th Centuries, but it was heavily restored after storm damage, in 1869. It has two fonts, a Norman font recovered from the graveyard, and a 15th Century font.
