St Bartholomew's Church, Much Marcle, Herefordshire 25 July 2014

St Bartholomew's Church, Much Marcle, Herefordshire 25 July 2014
In the Kyrle Chapel, originally the Chantry Chapel, is the alabaster tomb of Sir John Kyrle and his wife Sybil, nee Scudamore. Sybil died in 1637, Sir John in 1660. At Sybil's feet is a bear's paw in a ducal coronet, the Scudamore family crest; at Sir John's feet is a hedgehog, the Kyrle family crest. The hedgehog is inscribed on his flank "nil moror ictus" - "never mind the blow".
