St Mary's Church, Builth Wells, Powys 25 June 2014

The tower of St Mary's dates from around 1300 but was subsequently increased in height; the remainder of the church was rebuilt in 1875. Prior to The Reformation, the church was served by the monks of Brecon Priory. After this, incumbents are listed from 1574. Inside the porch is an effigy of John Lloyd who died in 1585 and was the first Sheriff and Justice of The Peace in Wales, and who was also appointed "Squire to the body of Queen Elizabeth I". A plaque outside states that John Wesley preached in the churchyard on 3rd May 1743.
