You never see those darling things in the USA and I see them in old British movies all the time. I even have a photo of QE II's breakfast table and yes, she has one too.

My UK friends here in USA joke about them. Could they be from elsewhere?

Let us put an end to all this misconception about metal toast racks - they are ONLY used in rather "genteel"/homely/run-down/shabby/prententious bed-and-breakfasts or seaside hotels - always on an oilskin tablecloth, with a cruet set, a bottle of ketchup and some paper napkins (which the hotelier WILL insist on calling a "serviette"!!!), and those ghastly individual portions of butter, spread, or sump oil, and jams and marmalade.
