WP2065 WPG - ICE LEAVING THE ASSINIBOINE

POSTCARD Date: This is odd. The handwritten note is dated July 23, 1906, but the card was clearly posted on August 23, 1905, from W. Mc in Winnipeg to V. Smith in Dartmouth, N.S. Publisher / Photographer: Novelty Souvenir Co., Winnipeg Notation: Even though the writer wasn't certain what year he was in, he knew what city he was in; "I am in Winnipeg at last[.] quite a town[.] good Bye"

WP2095 WPG - C. N. R. BRIDGE

POSTCARD Date: Posted February 12, 1906. Publisher / Photographer: Ed. Justement. Notation: This appears to be another card exchanged between collectors. Sent from L. Charleton of 384 Elgin Ave. in Winnipeg to A. Roseberry in New Hampshire, USA, the note on the reverse reads simply; "Thanks for yours. Please send another." The bridge isn't identified, but I wonder if it might not be the main line C.P.R. Bridge, south of the Higgins Ave. bridge, to Elmwood.

WP2091B WPG - MARYLAND BRIDGE

POSTCARD Date: Posted July 18, 1906 Publisher / Photographer: L. J. De Nobele #34 Notation: The image appears to have been taken from the north west corner of the bridge, looking across the Assiniboine River, with St. Mary's Academy just visible on the far side. This same image seems to have been used by the Montreal Postcard Co. (My collection number WP2070)

WP2099 WPG - (SHIP BUILDING - ROSAMOND BILLET)

POSTCARD Date: Not evident. Not Posted. Publisher / Photographer: Unidentified Notation: Under magnification, the name of this ship, "Rosamond Billet", is legible on the hull just below the row of gents perched on the ship. The Manitoba Historical Society list is as having a tonnage of 679 tons and as operated by Hugh Sutherland. No other information is evident on either side of this postcard, but the location of the ship is definitely on the west side of the Red Red River, just upstream of the St. Boniface Cathedral - seen in the centre, behind what is likely the old Broadway Bridge. This mention is made in the June 13, 1911 edition of the Winnipeg Tribune; "Another Barge is Going Northward with Large Cargo The Rosamond Billet, of the Lake Winnipeg Shipping & Supply Co., Is now en route for the north heavily laden with supplies for the construction camps around lake Winnipeg. She called Saturday night and it is her second trip this season. That there Is a boom in navigation on the Red River is evidenced by the fact that on Thursday night the company owning the Rosamond Billet will launch its second large barge this spring. Interestingly, the January 3, 1921 edition of the Winnipeg Tribune lists a Rosamond Billet as one of the guests at a New Years ball held at Government House.
