Interesting features of this image include the "Chevrolet Building" seen in the background to the left of the Fort Garry Hotel and the smoke stacks of the street car power plant seen behind the Manitoba Club.

POSTCARD Date: Posted in December, 1905. Handwritten note dated December 13, 1905. Publisher / Photographer: Ed. Justement Notation: This postcard appears to be one of the many postcards, or "postals", that were exchanged by postcard enthusiasts throughout the word. Addressed to Miss M. Bailey in Kent, England, the note from Olive Burchild in Brandon, Manitoba reads; "I will be pleased to exchange. Many thanks for the card."

POSTCARD Date: Not evident. Unposted. Publisher / Photographer: Lyall Commercial. Notation: I have had some difficulty finding information on this building/business. The 1911 Henderson Directory has its address as 21-27 Notre Dame Avenue, St. Boniface. No such number exists today. Notre Dame begins at Tache - running east, with house numbers in the 100s. Checking with Hatheway's map of Winnipeg in 1911, it is evident that Notre Dame originally ran straight through Tache to the river bank - land now repurposed as Parc Joseph Royal. Given that the odd numbers on Tache are on the north side, it is likely that the St. Boniface Hotel was as well. In fact, I am pretty sure that it sat at the NW corner of Tache & Notre Dame. Back to the image on the postcard... I believe that the paved street on the right side of the picture was likely Tache and the dirt street on the left would have been Notre Dame.

POSTCARD Date: Posted October 17, 1908. Publisher / Photographer: C. S. C. Ltd. Notation: This cigar store was in the Royal Alexandra Hotel. The proprietor was W. J. Clubb. He was part of the family that operated a very successful tobacco business in Toronto - A. Clubb & Sons. He ran this very successful cigar store in Winnipeg and later added one in Victoria's Empress Hotel. Eventually, he also moved to Victoria. W. J Clubb also published many Winnipeg postcards and his cigar stand was likely a perfect retail outlet in its day.

POSTCARD Date: Not posted or dated, but the caption on the card dates the image as March 30, 1906. Publisher / Photographer: Gibson Notation: The card's message was signed by "Brother Walter" and addressed to a Miss M. E. Reeve in Surrey, England. It was, however not posted. In the message, Walter (Reeve) explains; "I put these cards in an envelope because I thought they might not reach England." He goes on the explain the image; "You will see the patrol wagon is full of strikers, I see it full two or three times." On the far right is the Windsor Hotel at 655 Main Street - now (2018) known as the Manwin Hotel. On the ground floor, there are two large windows with three doorways in between. Both Windows have the "Windsor Hotel" name. On the left window, "Maison Francais" and "Joe Serina[?] Prop [Proprietor]" both appear - on the right window, "Bar Room". The three doorways, left to right, are identified as "Office", "Ladies Entrance" and "Bar". On the centre building the sign reads; "Shiloh [Cough Syrup] Will Cure Your Cough".
