OC0111 LOU F. SCHOLES CHAMPION AMATEUR SCULLER

OC0111 LOU F. SCHOLES CHAMPION AMATEUR SCULLER
POSTCARD

Date: Posted August 25, 1904 from Toronto to Stratford.

Publisher / Photographer: Unidentified

Notation: This description is from vintagepostcards.ca (www.vintagepostcards.ca/Lou_Scholes.html):

"This patriotic postcard series from an unknown publisher illustrates Lou Scholes following his world record time at Britain's Henley-on-Thames. Lou Scholes was the “first Canadian to win the Diamond Sculls, rowing’s unofficial amateur world championships, in 1904”. He planned on defending his title in 1905, but was struck with typhoid fever and could not attend.

So significant was this victory to Canadians that when Scholes returned to Toronto as champion, he was greeted by a welcoming crowd of between 70,000 and 80,000 people."

Wow. That's not the usual Lou F. Scholes card (using the same image), which was published by Warwick Bros. & Rutter. www.ipernity.com/doc/wintorbos/36276242

Interestingly, mine was postmarked the day before yours -- August 24, 1904!
