African Sunset

African Sunset
Taken for January's Treasure Hunt 12. Tabletop Photography. I had this idea earlier and have made 3 attempts at the background, the initial background I painted on cardboard which allowed no light to penetrate through to give the animals a silhouette appearance.
Through a lot of trial and error I ended up printing an image on paper which provided the silhouettes when placed on the window, allowing enough sun to penetrate through and achieve the desired effect

Christina Sonnenschein has particularly liked this photo

Clever thinking, but again, this isn't quite what I meant by a diorama. Several people submitted shots with painted/printed backgrounds based on the information in the squidoo article (an article I hadn't reviewed), so I won't disqualify it, but in a true diorama, any "flat" material like prints should be kept to a minimum.

Oh, I am so sorry Crow, you are quite right and a bad oversight on my part! My apologies everyone for adding this link which has mislead you from Crow's assignment, I take full blame for it.

A cool idea, and I like the scale of everything.
(but it lacks 'depth')

Thanks for your comments, I had incorporated a dead plant in the foreground to give the appearance of looking through the grass, though it only made the photo appear out of focus. I think my attention was more focussed on the backdrop. :)

You have created a lovely effect Zoe, well done on your experimentation and final image, you definitely have caught the atmosphere of an African sunset!

Great effect! It had me fooled in the thumbnail and for a brief moment when I opened it.

I think this turned out well even if it didn't quite meet the definitions of the challenge. I think most of us employed some sort of printed or painted backdrop. It might be fun to have a go at dioramas again sometime in the future. I for one, got quite into the challenge of making mine! I think it was very clever of you to put your background in the window to get the effect you wanted.
