On Ruta 40, from Susques to San Antonio de los Cobres, Cerro Tuzgle (elev. 5,500 m) and its lava floods. This extinct volcano is isolated on the altiplano, about 120 km far eastbound from the main volcanic front. These coal-black lavas are about 12,000y-old.

The landscapes in the altiplano are amazing, aren't they?
And the Ruta 40 is amazing. I have been on it in the Deep South of Argentina too...
