For those who don't know off road tricks: the plates on the sides are "waffle-boards", which are used when a vehicle is stuck into smooth sands. These steel-made plates were US-designed during WWII to build provisional air strips. The only problem was they weighted about 50 kg each!

You are perfectly right concerning the this Unimog model. I don't know if it is the Diesel, the six cilynder petrol was unbreakable but ...ok, it is not the place to ...talk about the visible two hundred liter spare jerrycans etc, etc .
