Between Longreach and Charters Towers, in the middle of nowhere, a weird meeting. The sand goanna (Varanus gouldii) is a - very - large Australian monitor lizard: this specimen was more than 1.5 m long

When I arrived at Charters Towers, I went to "beer " in a bar. I discussed with people around, mostly gold miners, and I was told I was a little bit insane to have shot this animal "at point blank". Monitors can bite if harassed, and very hard!
