Er ist der am häufigsten als Zierpflanze verwendete Palmfarn und wird beispielsweise auch in Gärten am Mittelmeer kultiviert. Sein natürliches Verbreitungsgebiet liegt jedoch in Japan, natürliche Bestände in China könnten inzwischen verschwunden sein.
