A small sized, hot to warm growing, unifoliate epiphyte found in Africa, Madagascar, Mascarenes, Seychelles and on into Malaysia, Queensland Australia, New Guinea, New Caledonia, Fiji and the Society and Austral Islands in rainforests and hill forests at elevations of sealevel to 1700 meters near and over watercourses on vertical tree trunks with obliquely conical pseudobulbs carrying a single, apical, oblong, petiolate leaf that blooms from summer through autumn on a basal, slender, to 8" [20 cm] long, wiry inflorescence arising from a mature pseudobulb, with 6 to 8, foul-smelling flowers radiating from the apex in an umbel.
