Trees at Wakenitz. this stretch of the river used to demarcate the border between West and East Germany and therefore still is in its natural state ( Wakenitz is sometimes called the Amazon of the North).

I remember seeing the watchtowers from the western side of the Ratzeburger See. Also a bridge in a bad state over this river ending in barbed wire and nobody's land (at Rothenhusen ?)

Thank you, Diederik! This was my first visit there and the only thing that shows that there used to be a border is that the vegetation on the former East German side is more or less undisturbed. The Fährhaus at Rothenhusen is restored with a tasteful modern extension.
