Winchester Cathedral- Nave

The nave of Winchester Cathedral is the largest in Europe with a length of 168m. The original Norman nave was remodelled in Perpendicular style in the second half of the 14th century and the wooden ceilings were replaced by stone vaults.

The main photo was taken from the middle of the nave towards the choir, the inset is looking straight up.

Das Langhaus der Kathedrale von Winchester ist mit einer Länge von 168m das größte Europas. Der ursprüngliche romanische Bau wurde in der zweiten Halfte des 14. Jh im spätgotischen Perpendicular-Stil umgebaut und erhielt statt der ursprünglichen Holzdecke ein steinernes Gewölbe.

Das Hauptbild ist aus der Mitte des Langhauses in Richtung Chor aufgenommen, das PiP direkt nach oben in das Gewölbe.

Perfectly composed.............and perfectly exposed! The lighting is just lovely as is the fine detail you've captured. I especially like the golden light coming in through the windows above the columns and at the far end of the cathedral. The symmetry is particularly pleasing to the eye!

Thanks a ot, Keith! I did have to tone down the highlights and lighten the shadows a bit, but that was wasy with RAW. Thankfully 15mm give plenty of scope for perspective correction.

Danke vielmals, Werner! Ja, mach mal, die interessieren mich sehr! Wir konnten leider nicht in die Krypta, die war zu. Es hatte so sehr geregnet, dass auch außen an der Kathedrale die Enten im "See" schwammen... Die Krypta möchte ich unbedingt irgendwann noch sehen, wie sich die Gormley-Skulptur im Wasser spiegelt:-)

Hab' gerade eine Aufnahme vom Kirchenschiff bearbeitet - angeregt von deinem Umgang mit dem Licht hier. Man muss sich also trauen, Stellen (die nicht so relevant sind) auch mal ausbrennen zu lassen. Wieder was bewusst geworden, wieder was gelernt.
Ich lass die Bilder bald mal kommen, die skulptur habe ich.

Bei der Beleuchtung wie in den meisten Kirchen schafft man es eigentlich nie, alles korrekt zu belichten, Wenn man auf die wenigen extrem hellen Stellen belichtet, hat man den großen Rest viel zu dunkel und beim Aufhellen rauscht's grausam. Also muss man irgendwie schauen, dass man möglichst wenig abgesoffene und möglichst wenig ausgefressene Stellen produziert;-)

Thanks very much, Peter! The 6D is quite passable at high ISO, I have gone up to 5000 in some cases whereas my first DSLR was awful at 800;-) With my older equipment I could never have achieved a decent shot.
