Lovely clean colours, Gudrun. I really like the yellow which complements the sky so well. That sailing ship look very special.

Thanks a lot, Amelia! The old houses in Trondheim are mostly beautifully renovated, yellow/ ochre is a colour that is rather popular there.

Two lovely pictures Gudrun. I love the gentle reflections in the main shot and the perspective and sky in the PiP, where the reflections are much deeper.

Thanks very much, Rosa! It's quite astonishing how different the same reflections seem when you look at them from a different side.

Wow! Somewhere I've actually been! Trondheim was a regular stopping off place for the RN Assault Ships during exercises with the Norwegian Armed Forces. Unfortunately we never got to stay much more than 24 hours at a time and I've never been there when it wasn't covered in snow. ! I didn't have a camera in those days either ;-)

Anyway, enough of my waffling on............you have two superb images here, both really beautifully taken. I love the architecture - it's pretty, but still quite functional looking. The line up of boats in both images is really interesting, and expensive looking.

On balance I prefer the image in the PiP..........the sky is a little more interesting and the reflections are much more defined.

I'd give them both 5 stars if I could..!!

Thank you so much, Keith! Except for a few hours one October I also have seen Trondheim only in winter. You must go and visit again one day, it has changed a lot! The old wharves have been redeveloped and the quayside areas are also changing rapidly.
btw -I once saw the HMS Sutherland in Tromsö harbour but you couldn't get anywhere near because a wide area was fenced off. Quite a difference to the Norwegian skjold corvettes where security was much more relaxed...

I've been to Tromsö as well. I visited both whilst serving onboard HMS Fearless and HMS Intrepid (both now sadly decommissioned) back in the mid 1980s. I doubt I'll get back there again though :-( My biggest regret is that I wasn't into photography until I left the RN in 1998. Such a shame as I traveled all over the world and have hardly any photos (apart from the postcards I sent home).

This really is a pity when you have traveled so widely! But I'm sure you have stored it all in the hard disk in your head:-) I guess many of us had times when we didn't take any photos.

Trondheim....nice memories brought back by these beautiful views with that unique light only to be found in the very North. I agree with Jaap, the PiP is my favourite, but the photos are both great, Gudrun!

I prefer the PIP too Gudrun - the wide angle view and diagonal lead-in along the harbour wall make for a stronger composition. The sky is beautiful and the blue/yellow colour combination is great.

Thank you, Graham! I was very undecided about which photo to choose and changed the two around several times....

A pair of totally outstanding pictures! Each one should be framed on a wall in a museum or gallery. FANTASTIC and perfect in every way. I'd really like to just step into them and be there please! :) Beautiful architecture and setting as well. Drool. :)

Uli F. club has replied to Gudrun club

Gudrun club has replied to Uli F. club
