Trölladyngja

Trölladyngja (1468m) is Iceland's largest shield volcano with a 10km diameter and a 100m deep oblong crater. It lies in the wasteland north of Vatnajökull and is part of the National Park.

Trölladyngja (1468m) ist Islands größter Schildvulkan. Er hat einen Durchmesser von 10km und einen 100m tiefen ovalen Krater. Er liegt in der Vulkanwüste nördlich des Vatnajökull und ist Teil des gleichnamigen Nationalparks.

Thanks a lot, Amelia! You can see why the vast Icelandic highlands are uninhabited:-) They are only accessible for 3-4 months in summer, there are a few huts and SAR are patrolling the roads.

Thanks you so much, Steve! In the sort of weather we had, it was fantastic. In rain and bad visibility you wouldn't see much but it would still be fun, especially the fords which can get difficult with lots of water;-)

A superb shot Gudrun. Iceland has a lot of active volcanoes. I remember the one a few years ago, 2011 I think, when the ash disrupted so many air flights over Europe.

Many thanks, Rosa! Oh yes, the unpronouncable Eyafjallajökull;-) That was actually just a small eruption, the two next ones (Grimsvötn and Bardarbunga) were much larger but didn't disrupt flights.
