darning the blanket

darning the blanket
I think my parents bought this blanket in Ireland on their honeymoon. In the village where they stayed lived two brothers, named Ferry. One was a weaver and the other a tailor. My father also bought a suit, which never fitted. He used to wear the jacket, but it had some buttonholes missing. The trousers came up to his armpits. Later the blanket was used as a dustsheet. It's beautiful. I'm mending it. The suit went in the bin, still smelling of bonfires. I don't think I minded about such things then.
