What color? Hard to see with the soot on it.

It was hard to tell but looks like smoky clear.. This one needs cleaning of the soot.. What is the best way to clean it without using acid wash as I am afraid of strong chemicals since I was badly burned by lye on the job 9 years ago.. I use laundry soap or dish soap and a brush to clean some insulators if not very dirty..

It would be clear or ice aqua then. I believe oxalic acid (wood bleach) should be strong enough to clean this up while being relatively safe to handle.

I use toilet bowl cleaner (a fairly strong one that contains hydrochloric acid) in a container just big enough to hold the insulator and let it soak for a few hours.
