03-13 Grey Heron

03-13 Grey Heron
Or Ardea Cinerea by it's Latin name. This particular grey heron was taken in Heywood's Queens Park. Every year, Queens Park in Heywood is home to these herons - with more than 14 pairs of these charismatic birds gathering on an island in the park's boating lake to breed and nest.

After building their nests, they await the hatching of their young, which takes around 27 days, and the chicks remain in the nest for around seven weeks. So if you want to catch site of a Heron Chick then get yourself to Heywood in the next few weeks.
