Another Place

“In the space between chaos and shape there was another chance.” ― Jeanette Winterson

Loneliness

“Loneliness is the human condition. Cultivate it. The way it tunnels into you allows your soul room to grow. Never expect to outgrow loneliness. Never hope to find people who will understand you, someone to fill that space. An intelligent, sensitive person is the exception, the very great exception. If you expect to find people who will understand you, you will grow murderous with disappointment. The best you'll ever do is to understand yourself, know what it is that you want, and not let the cattle stand in your way.” ― Janet Fitch, White Oleander

Trying to look as if its not a pose, I watch you try to pinpoint me, With a detached stare, Sometimes focusing in, but usually out. I watch you clean the lens with clinical care. Before you try to uncover what's not really there.

On Porlock Beach

Sitting on a cool stone, Watching the waves, One summer evening, Feeling the chill of night-fall, Listening to a dog barking, Seeing the sea turn blue, pink, grey, and dark green, And smelling the salty air, I thought I'd fallen in love. But in the morning, I watched the birds gliding above the waves, Fishermen bringing in their boats. And the night after that, I watched the lights on vessels moving at a distance Away. And then I crawled From the depths of the ocean That had almost engulfed me, Knowing there was something else waiting for me. Something even stronger.

Response to Sonnet 18

What shall I compare thee to? Rough winds do shake and never cease And summer days have long since past. I have lost possession by nature’s changing course. Is this fair? And whilst I wonder in death’s shade Thou growest Breathing a life of gold, Whilst my eyes can’t see that The eternal summer has dimmed. I still wish that heaven would shine Instead of burning the eternal lines So long, So long. RJB - Inspired by Sonnet 18

Defences

24 Jun 2015 5 2 501
Grey blocks Carefully arranged. The patterns we make Important only to ourselves. Stretching right around the shore As defiant as a child. Tarnished slightly orange. Nature's whisper of what's to come. Behind where we stand Even higher concrete walls Have been placed But with a gap. So that we can still enjoy the view From time to time Of our delusion. But no longer do we often look. Standing as far back as possible. From our history. No one tolerates the storm any longer. Ignoring the swell, We try to filter out the noise That's ringing in our ears Even from a distance. Waiting to crash Into our defences. It's hard work. We shore up our defences. But the storm overflows Caressing then engulfing Before calmly following us Up the beach, and beyond Like the embarrassing lover We thought we'd left behind.

Mystic Dreamer

Mystic dreamer, It doesn't interest me how much in love you are, Or if the verse you write is meant to echo the sound of my heart. I know the story you're telling me isn't true. You whisper to the romantic. To the faithless and dangerous. Can you bear the accusation? 'Carpe diem'. Your words steal and grate. Exciting and ruthlessly predictible. Your wisdom hides in the mist, imperceptible. Your river sparkles and flows, but it isn't silver. And your words run like cliches. If you met me as a stranger on your road, I'd trace your silken thread to the wreckage you've left behind, And then distance myself. For the greater good.

Legacy Forgotten

I came to write, But as soon as I sit down The legacy is forgotten, And nature overcomes. The only beautiful place around here Becomes too much For as long as I am here at least.
