Wasp nest.

Wasp nest.
I removed this wasp nest from my shed. The queen builds this small nest, then lays a few eggs. Once her workers have hatched, they then help her to build the big nest.
Wasps are useful in gardens as they take aphids back to the nest. They feed the larvae, which exude a sweet substance which the wasp feeds on. In the autumn, the larvae have hatched and there is no food left for the foragers. This is when they are noticed and can become a nuisance as they are looking for anything sugary to feed on.
